Handpainting 500 vinyl records surely stands as a contrast to the mp3
nation.
Obviously it's a full quality or nothing deal, wrapped in artwork that
calls for a thought of time
dedicated to this craft.
The essence of the project was to slow things down and create a valued
timespent process.
It has taken 3 weeks for Heidi and friends to uniquely handpaint all 500
vinyls.
The work has been fruitfull in many aspects, for instance the process is by
Heidi described
"it has taken forever but it was really a bless, i havent chatted and joked
so relaxed for years,
it was actually pure rehab therapy from stress and other mental
disorders".

Heidi Mortenson grew up listening to the metallic sounds of her dad fixing
cars in the garage and her mum playing the organ. Her first audio
modulations began on a small cassette player, La Bamba was a favorite. As a
teenager Heidi moved to Barcelona and grew up in the Spanish ghetto.
In Barcelona Mortenson began experimenting with recording herself singing
inside a washing machine, rebuilding a telephone receiver into a microphone,
hooking up with a walkie-talkie system and payed the rent from DJ gigs.
After playing her very first concert Heidi was selected Resident Artist
2002-03 at the annual experimental LEM Festival in Graçia. She then packed
her bags and went on a European tour with visual artist SOLU, with whom she
later performed the Opening Act of Transmediale Festival 2004 in Berlin.
Entitled as a OneWomanBand Heidi then moved to Berlin. Here she iniciated
a series of events called Wired Nights which idealy were a playground for
her and her music friends, a place to improvise and try new ideas. The
events were often described as fun and chaotic and unpredictable theatre
pieces of entertaining quality. The Wired Nights turned into the record
label Wired Records which was founded by Heidi in 2005 when she was to
release her debut album with money she had received from a fund.
Mortenson's music is colorful, textured and odly edged. Approached with a
nerdytorial charm her songs space travel through sound experiments and visit
seriousness vs. self-irony in a twisted pop production. Add emotional drive,
a mentalist flavor and soul of old cartoon.
Live Mortenson is an entertaining entity full of surprices and tricks up her
sleeve. She is known for involving her audiences and making them feel part
of a lively experience. Part of her performance consists of live sampling,
beatbox and vocal instruments, creating songs instantly by her vocal
abilities. Sultry, silly, soulful, and playful.
Heidi has toured Canada and the US both on the east coast and west coast
with two full length album releases so far. Her latest project is 500
handpainted vinyls. The EP is a limited edition single sided 12" with
etchings and unique handmade painting on each record.
Mortenson is also working as a producer for other bands and can on rare
ocasions be seen playing with her bearded band The Uncontrollables.
